What is the DBS Update Service?

This service lets applicants keep their DBS certificates up-to-date online without having to apply for a new check every three years.

It enables individuals to take their certificates from one job or role to the next as employers can check your certificate online.

Registration lasts for one year and costs £16 per year. There’s no charge if you’re a volunteer.

If you have a certificate via the update service, you'll still need to let us know when you've updated it. Learn how via our DBS page.

Remember to keep a copy of your original certificate as you will need this to be able to use the update service with multiple organisations.
